Tamiya, among the performance‑enhancing accessories for the DF‑01, TA01 and TA02 chassis, released a set that includes a one‑way bearing to be installed in the front gearbox: part number 53071, described as the “Manta Ray Torx Splitter.”
The 53071 set includes a modified axle designed to interface with the one‑way bearing, two gears, two bearings and the one‑way bearing itself. The one‑way bearing is also available as a standalone accessory: part number 15700041, defined as “6mm One‑Way Bearing for 53071.”
This solution can be installed on any TA01 or TA02 chassis.
Tamiya released an evolution of this system with the TA02 Racing Special Chassis, model number 58157. As standard equipment, model 58157 includes several accessories designed to improve performance. Among these accessories is a new front differential with a one‑way bearing, identified by part number 53200. This differential (on the right in the photo) replaces the bevel‑gear differential (on the left in the photo) found on other models in the TA02 family. This solution can be installed on any TA01 or TA02 chassis.a.
The one‑way bearing is a highly recommended accessory for all four‑wheel‑drive models without a center differential. The one‑way action allows optimal management of the speed difference between the front axle wheels and the rear axle wheels.
By installing the one‑way bearing on the front axle, braking force is applied only to the rear wheels during deceleration, making it easier to negotiate tight corners. This is the best solution for achieving smoother and more predictable handling, although it increases braking distances. In this configuration, the model becomes understeering. The difference in rotational speed between the inner and outer wheels on the same axle is managed by the differential; without a differential, the model would struggle to turn through corners. The difference in speed between the front and rear axles is managed by the one‑way bearing, while the optimal traction speed ratio between the two axles is determined by the different tooth counts of the front and rear gear sets.
This solution was also developed for the TA03 chassis.
